A Lesson in Impermanence✨
How about a hint?
A map through turmoil,
or a wink to give me hope
that this sinkhole in my chest
Is not a permanent resident and
I’m on the right track.
Why, my darling—
has the moon taught you nothing?
And what of the tides?
Or the changing winds,
from Indian summer
to brisk, icy gusts
of late fall?
The lesson is all around you.
Permanent is a mirage.
Grasping for the past
is like wishing a cloud
would stay put
as the perfect elephant face.
But my dear,it has to change.
A 4 year old is aching to see bunny ears.
Embrace the seasons, sweet one.
Catch the waves
tumble into the sand.
Surrender as it wrecks you—
then stand back up again,
salty shoulders back,
ready for the ride out to sea.
Let your summer freckles fade, my beauty
and the autumn wind stir a sense of wonder.
Curl up in front of the fire.
Nourish your soul
before the flowers bloom
and you’re called back into the sun
to shine the brightness of spring,
melting back into the lazy heat
and your sun-kissed skin.
Love the change.
trust in each new season,
your wisdom grows,
your experience shapes the next phase,
and your purpose chisels one more step
into your staircase to the sky.
